In language arts are continuing with our reading groups. We are also wrapping up poetry and will be diving deep into non-fiction text. We will be exploring and using text features (captions, pictures, glossaries, tables of contents, headings, subheadings, etc.) to aid in comprehension. We will also be finding the main idea and details of nonfiction text. We will also continue to study a new author...Peggy Parish. She is the author of the very literal-thinking character Amelia Bedelia. We will explore Amelia Bedelia's antics and discuss figurative language and idioms. Please make sure that you are reading with and checking what your child is bringing home to read. Also, please help make sure that your child is bringing back their books/materials that they take home. We often use them the next day in class and it is difficult if the materials are not there.
In math this week we will be continuing the topic of measurement by telling time to the hour, half hour, five minute mark, and to the minute. For those students who are ready we will introduce elapsed time. Thank you to those parents that have been practicing and helping your kiddos at home. Also, please, please practice those facts at home! I've noticed students struggling with solving the basic subtraction facts. Knowing these facts will also help when checking subtraction facts with the turn-around addition fact.
In science we are learning about the moon! This week we will be showing what we've learned through informational writing about the moon.
I think that is it for now and have a great week!
The school hours are 7:45-2:55. The first bell will ring at 7:40 and the tardy bell will ring at 7:45 which means school will begin promptly at 7:45. Please note that the doors into the building will not unlock until 7:15.
Entering the building in the morning will happen through 2 sets of doors. Students will enter the building through the front middle doors or the gym doors only. Students will go directly to the cafeteria and sit with their class for morning assembly. Morning assembly will start at 7:45. Students arriving to school after the tardy bell will need enter through the front office doors to receive a tardy slip.
Security and the safety of your children is our top priority. All parents attending only the morning assembly will enter the building through the gym or front middle doors. Parents will not be allowed to enter the halls or walk children to class after the morning assembly. Parents that need to remain in the building (for a conference, meeting, or to volunteer) must exit the building and sign in at the front office to obtain a visitor’s badge.
